Our Story

FBC Dalhart

Thank you for looking at First Baptist Dalhart for your spiritual needs. We seek to bring glory to God through biblical worship, Christ-centered relationships and missional service. We have endeavored to honor the past while embracing our future as a church, which began on August 25, 1901. Eleven people met in their usual location, a small railway car, not only to worship, but to organize as a church. Looking to God and the rugged, frontier village that surrounded them, they formed what would be known as the First Baptist Church of Dalhart.

The congregation soon began holding services in a local school house, and in November of 1901, they were able to move into a building on their own property. As Dalhart grew, so did the ministry of FBC. In August of 1927, the congregation relocated to a new facility where they were able to minister to the community for the next 60 years. Once again, the congregation felt the need for expansion, so on October 16, 1988, our current location was dedicated to the Lord. The theme of the service was taken from Psalm 127:1, “Except the Lord build the house, they labor in vain that build it.” This was a fitting testimony to God’s activity in the life of this once small congregation that began so many years ago.

First Baptist Church has stayed committed to the values and principles that has sustained this church for nearly 120 years: an unwavering devotion to Jesus Christ; a resolute submission the Word of God; a deep commitment to unity and friendship; and a steadfast desire to serve each other and our community.
